Shocking reveal - The cost of not BEing YOU

I used to think that if I made everyone else around me happy – then I’d be happy and successful.

Not until my 40’s did I realized that this is NOT the recipe for success nor happiness. Service yes, but in balance with my own needs for sovereignty.

It wasn’t until I completed my advanced degree in Psychology and then went on for a coaching credential that I clearly saw the emerging patterns…

I looked at my own life of being a corporate warrior resulting in extreme burnout, followed by being an active mom in service to my 2 boys, and then a rocky divorce in my 50’s – events all punctuated by people pleasing – trying to be everything to everyone with little attention to my own needs.

I sensed that there must be a better way to live… and there is…

After 60+ years of lived experience paired with gathering women over the past 20+ years , I’ve identified 5 top themes in the messages/ beliefs that have kept women suppress, repressed, depressed & playing small.

Today I’m sharing these top cultural pulse points with you – in hopes that will identify these themes in your own life and begin to transform them – so you too can live a more empowered, joy-filled life.

Let’s face it- We’ve all been programmed by our family, culture, religion and media for millennia on what it means to be a “good girl/woman.” Often these unspoken rules shape how we think, act, love, and lead.

These messages quietly convince us to shrink, serve, and silence ourselves in the name of acceptance or safety.

When we peel back the layers, we see five powerful patterns that have kept women playing small.

1. Emotional Suppression and Silencing

From a young age, many women are taught that emotions make them “too much.” As a result we learn to hide our anger, mute our sadness, and mask our joy.
We’re told:

“Be quiet and pretty.”
“Don’t make a scene.”
“We don’t talk about that.”

The unspoken rule: Your emotions are dangerous. Silence keeps you safe.

The truth is, our emotions are energy — powerful messengers guiding us toward what’s real and right for us and what needs healing. Reclaiming the full spectrum of our feelings is the first act of self-liberation.

2. Objectification and Loss of Bodily Autonomy

For generations, women’s bodies have been treated as objects to be shaped, controlled, and/or used.
We internalize conflicting messages:

“Be sexy, but not too sexual.”
“Be thin, but not weak.”
“Your worth is in your beauty.”

The underlying message: Your body is not yours.

Healing begins when we come home to our bodies — listening to our body’s wisdom, honoring our cycles, and choosing pleasure, nourishment, and rest on our own terms.

3. Performance and Conditional Worth

So many of us were taught that love must be earned — through achievement, obedience, or self-sacrifice.
We’re praised for being good girls, helpers, and overachievers, not for being real, messy, or bold.

The core belief: I am only worthy if I please, perform, or am perfect.
True freedom lies in rewriting that story — remembering that your worth is unconditional (you are already loved and lovable), your voice is valid, and authenticity is your greatest gift.

4. Gendered Power and Authority

Even today, many women absorb the belief that men should lead, decide, and hold authority — while women support, adapt, or serve quietly behind the scenes.

We hear:

“Men have the final say.”
“We as women shouldn’t outshine our partners.”
“Find a husband to take care of you.”

This conditioning teaches: Male power is natural; female power must be disguised.

But feminine leadership is rising — collaborative, intuitive, and deeply relational. When women reclaim their voice, power becomes partnership rather than domination.

5. Isolation and Self-Blame

Perhaps the most damaging pattern is the expectation that women must hold it all together — alone.
We’re told to figure it out, not burden others, and somehow take responsibility for everyone’s happiness.

“You’re the caretaker.”
“Don’t upset anyone.”
“Others’ pain is your fault.”

The message: You must carry it all — and if things fall apart, it’s on you.

Healing happens in connection. When women gather, share truth, and witness one another’s stories, shame dissolves. We remember that our struggles are not personal failings but symptoms of collective conditioning — and community is the cure.

The Way Forward

These five themes are not life sentences; they are invitations.
Invitations to feel deeply, take up space, own your body, speak your truth, and connect courageously.

Every time a woman sheds these inherited limits, she doesn’t just free herself — she opens the door for others to do the same.

Because when women rise, we all rise.

Awareness is the first step toward freedom.

Taking action is its twin.

When we see ourselves clearly and act on that knowledge we can lead lives filled with resounding joy, full self-expression and freedom.

I invite you to play full-out and acknowledge your unique contributions and needs.

Drop me a note and share which of these themes do you most resonate with.

To your health, wealth and abundance,
